Shibbir Ahmed, New York: As with every year, the Baloch diaspora and nationalist organizations worldwide observed August 11 as "Balochistan Independence Day." Alongside various events held across the United Kingdom, Europe, and different parts of the world, strong demands were made to the international community for the full independence and legal recognition of Balochistan.

Highlighting the historical context, Baloch groups observe this day based on the claim that on this day in 1947, the then-independent ruler of present-day Balochistan, the "Khanate of Kalat," declared its sovereignty separately from British India.

During these worldwide events, the global Baloch diaspora and nationalist organizations demanded freedom and sovereignty for Balochistan. Prominent Baloch leader Mir Yar Baloch made a strong appeal to the global community in support of this demand. Additionally, top leaders of prominent political organizations, such as the Baloch National Movement (BNM), also called upon the United Nations and the international community to stand with Balochistan's sovereignty and grant it full recognition.

Meanwhile, the Government of Pakistan has taken a strict stance against this independence celebration and demand for recognition by the Baloch people. Reports indicate that security measures have been intensified across Balochistan, alongside strict crackdowns on communication and information exchange in various areas.

According to international relations analysts, amidst decades of political discontent, discrimination in resource extraction, and allegations of human rights violations, the Baloch people's demand for the right to self-determination has now emerged as a crucial and sensitive issue on the table of global diplomacy.
