NEW YORK — The vibrant “Bangladesh Day Parade” was held Sunday in Jackson Heights, New York, drawing thousands of Bangladeshi Americans along with representatives from the American political mainstream. The parade began at 69th Street in Jackson Heights and proceeded along 37th Avenue before concluding at 87th Street. M. Aziz and M. M. Shahin served as the Grand Marshals of the event.
Among the distinguished guests were Congresswoman Grace Meng, Congressman Tom Suozzi, State Senator Jessica González-Rojas, State Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz, and City Councilman Shekar Krishnan.
Attorney Moin Chowdhury, chairman of the organizing committee, said that more than 120 social, cultural, and professional organizations participated in the parade. The presence of Bangladeshi officers serving in the New York Police Department was one of the major highlights of the event.
Actors and singers from Bangladesh also joined the celebration, while performers from various cultural organizations showcased the country’s heritage through music and dance performances. The event was coordinated by Gias Ahmed and Fahad Solaiman.
